Phase II of The Green Partnership Program emerged in response to the tremendous success of Phase I. Phase II focuses on "best practices" at individual hotels, encouraging creative applications of "green thinking" and enabling new initiatives that will have a positive long-term environmental impact. These initiatives include:
Be-My-Beluga: This program encourages hotel Environmental Committees to raise money to "adopt" a beluga whale. Funds go directly into research and over $120,000 has been dedicated to the cause since 1998.
Endangered Species Protection: With the goal of protecting endangered species throughout our communities, our fundraising efforts have expanded beyond beluga whales to include sea turtles, the grey wolf and grizzly bear, the blue bird, the right whale - and the list continues to grow...
Industrial Composting: Fairmont is exploring ways to divert up to 60% of our current waste stream through industrial composting.
Audubon Accredited Golf Courses: In an effort to optimize the use of our golf course green space as a refuge and habitat for wildlife, all Fairmont-owned golf courses are enrolled in the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary System.
Eco-Meet: Green Conference Planning: Eco-Meet assists our Meeting Planners in executing reduced-waste conferences by: designing menus that feature less animal protein and increased vegetarian choices; providing meeting room recycling stations and biodegradable (corn) pens; offering disposables-free food and beverage services; and much more…
The Green Partnership Guide: Fairmont Hotels & Resorts created The Green Partnership Guide as a handbook for Colleagues and all those who wish to make an environmental difference. Now in its second edition, the Guide continues to inspire environmental action throughout the industry and is endorsed by many respected environmentalists, including Dr. David Suzuki and Monte Hummel, President of the World Wildlife Fund.
